Our location and local attractions
Woodlands is located in the pretty village of Drumnadrochit, which has an excellent selection of amenities right on its door step. Renowned as the "home of Nessie" the Loch Ness Monster, the village is home to the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre which offers scientific studies on various sightings of Nessie with photographic illustrations.
There are a number of excellent Inns and Restaurants, all within reasonable walking distance as well as our connection with the award winning Cobbs Restaurant overlooking Loch Ness where we can arrange FREE transport to and from the restaurant for you.
Only 1 mile from Woodlands Guest House is the stunningly beautiful Urquhart Castle, which sits on a promontory jutting out into Loch Ness. Heading West from Woodlands, the wild beauty of Glen Affric, one of the most beautiful and scenic Highland Glens, has wonderful walks with waterfalls, old Caledonian forests and amazing flora and fauna - Glen Affric is a must when staying at Woodlands. There is an excellent local riding centre which offers treks through the highland glens as well as lessons for the less experienced riders. Golf, Fishing, Canoeing, Sailing, Mountain Biking, Hill Walking and Climbing, Dolphin Spotting and Museum and Castle visits are just some of the things available in the area.
There is a stunning drive along the shores of Loch Ness to the nearby village of Fort Augustus, its focal point is a dramatic and picturesque series of locks which provide access to boats from the Caledonian canal to and from Loch Ness. From here you can continue your drive along the south shore of Loch Ness which is by far the most scenic part of Loch Ness whilst also the most accessible to the waters edge. On this journey you will pass the world famous Boleskin house, the falls of Foyers, Aldourie Castle and the Dorres Inn and eventually end up in Inverness, the capital city of the Highlands where you will be just 20 minutes drive away from Woodlands Guest House.
